I’d always wanted to go to San Francisco, so when I heard about the Bay to Breakers 12k foot race, I filed it away as something to do one day. I happened to check the website one day and found out that 2011 would be the 100th running of the Bay to Breakers and that … Continue reading
If you leave hungry from the Berger Pit, it’s your own fault – Berger Pit Fun Run recap (my first 5k!)
Kristen’s family has a camp (in southern Ontario we call them “cottages.” My friend tells me in Newfoundland they call them “cabins.” Who knew?) in Echo Bay called the Berger Pit. I love the Berger Pit. I think it’s one of the most peaceful and relaxing places to go. Every year, her family organizes a … Continue reading
A year of running, food and travel
So it’s been a year since I last blogged. I know the two people who read this blog have probably missed me. 😉 I’ve been looking back on the last year and I have so many stories to share. There was lots of running (3 half marathons, 1 10k, 2 5ks, 2 obstacle runs (Warrior … Continue reading
Walk Off the Earth
I recently read On a Cold Road by Dave Bidini. Â The book is based on Bidini’s journals and chronicles the Rheostatic’s cross Canada tour with the Tragically Hip in 1996. Â It includes anecdotes by other Canadian artists on touring, recording records, making it big or trying to make it big. Â I really enjoyed this book … Continue reading
Volkswagen and the Bark Side
Volkswagen must really like Star Wars, especially around the Super Bowl. Â Last year’s Super Bowl ad “The Force” is one of my favourites. This year, their game day commercial teaser “The Bark Side” seems to show there will be more where that came from. Â I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Loss and Inspiration
On Thursday, I was saddened to learn of the death of Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke. Â I’d been following the story closely since news of her training accident in Utah on Jan. 10. Â While I don’t regularly follow skiing and had honestly never heard of her, something about her story struck a chord with me. … Continue reading
We did it!
On Saturday I ran my first ever half marathon (and so did Dan), in the “happiest place on earth,” Walt Disney World! I’m so proud of us and everybody who ran with us (a lot of people from the Soo). Kristen and I ran the first 10 miles together. At around mile 10 my legs … Continue reading
What are you doing New Years Eve?
I can’t believe 2011 is coming to a close already. New Years Eve is one of my favourite occasions, and as we prepare to celebrate, I just had to share this video by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Brings a smile to my face. Enjoy!
Why we run
As I’ve mentioned before, I started running in the summer of 2010 and am currently training for my first half marathon. Â In the last year, I’ve run (chipped-time) a 12 k, a 10 k, and a 5 k race/fun run, in that order. Â Obviously I did things a little backward. Â Running has been hard and … Continue reading
It’s time to start the music, It’s time to light the lights…
I love the Muppets and can’t wait to see the new Muppet movie, which opened yesterday. Â I loved watching re-runs of The Muppet Show growing up, and I loved Kermit the Frog. Â To this day, my mom says Kermit’s Rainbow Connection still reminds her of me because I sang it so much. Â In the weeks … Continue reading
